The Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island is soliciting candidates for the following positions for our upcoming production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Mikado”. Performances will run from April through July 2020
Set Designer – The set designer will design and build the set based on the vision of the stage director and company. A small stipend of $750 plus materials will be provided.
Costumer – The costumer will use costumes in storage if appropriate or design and create costumes based on the vision of the stage director and the company. They will also deliver costumes in a timely manner. Rehearsals will generally occur Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings at locations in Nassau County, NY. A small stipend of $750 plus materials will be provided.
Stage Manager – Assist the stage director with staging rehearsals as needed, gather props, make sure the cast is where they need to be on performance days. Open and prepare theater/rehearsal space for performances, including but not limited to removal of extraneous items on stage and in the wings, sweeping of the stage floor, marking sight lines and spiking scenery/set pieces. Facilitate communication between production staff, house managers, directors, orchestral members, and cast members. Rehearsals will generally occur Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings at locations in Nassau County, NY. A small stipend of $400 will be provided for the run of the show (5 performances plus dress rehearsals if needed.)
Assistant Stage Manager – Communicate with Stage Manager and assist as needed, oversee the transport of the set; its assembly and lighting for the first act; the set change; its assembly and lighting for the second act; and its disassembly and transport afterward. Create a master props list, oversee the distribution and collection of props. During the show, “stand-by” offstage in case of theatrical emergencies (set piece falling, wardrobe malfunction, forgotten prop, etc). Remind cast members to be silent or talk in a stage whisper when the show is in progress. Rehearsals will generally occur Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings at locations in Nassau County, NY. A small stipend of $200 will be provided for the run of the show (5 performances plus dress rehearsals if needed.)
