CALL FOR DIRECTOR POSITIONS

The Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island is seeking candidates for 2 positions for our 2020 production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Mikado”: Music Director and Stage Director.

The term of the engagement begins in mid-November, 2019, when auditions for principals will be held. A full-company “meet and greet” / principal read-through of dialogue takes place the first week of December. Musical rehearsals for chorus and principals will begin the first week of January, 2020. Staging rehearsals begin in early to mid-February.

Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 10:00 PM, and typically take place at Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick (rehearsals are occasionally held at alternate venues in East Meadow, Bethpage and, rarely, Kings Park).

Performances with piano / principals begin in mid-April and run through the end of May. Full-orchestra/company performances take place from approximately the last two weekends of June through the second weekend of July, 2020.

Each position pays a base salary of $2000.00. Bonus incentives will be given for any recruited performers who participate for the entire run.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday, August 13th, from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at the East Meadow United Methodist Church, 470 E Meadow Ave, East Meadow, NY 11554. Interviews may also be arranged to take place that evening remotely (e.g. – Skype, FaceTime).

We are the Island’s only Gilbert & Sullivan troupe and also one of its oldest theater companies and oldest musical organizations. We’ve been entertaining Long Islanders since 1954, and having a great time doing it.

Have a look around the site, and chances are you’ll be almost as excited about the company as we are!
