The Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. We condemn racism and racist violence, and will not permit intolerance and injustice in any form to exist in our company, especially when directed against Black People, People of Color and Indigenous Peoples. We unequivocally acknowledge, respect, and celebrate our commonalities as well as our differences, and strive to reify this ideal for our members and audiences.
As a company our goal is to tell the stories of Gilbert and Sullivan in both traditional and modern perspectives, taking into consideration the original context of the their work, so as not to offend any groups represented in a manner that might no longer be considered appropriate to the current cultural ethos. We therefore intentionally build and nurture a community that is bonded together through our collective love of the theatrical and musical arts.
